Bluff City Theater is a professional non-profit theater company based in Hannibal, Missouri. We entertain, educate and inform through the presentation of theatrical works in an intimate and innovative way. Our artistic mandate is to produce works which bridge the gap between literature and the stage- works based in literature and adapted for stage, or works about literary characters or authors. We present all forms of theater including comedy, drama and musical theater, concentrating on lesser-known or rarely-produced works that also have the ability to educate audiences and expand their appreciation of theater. We may also commission new plays with emerging playwrights to develop our own body of work. We are performer-driven, in that we focus on the quality of the performance over other considerations like sets, costumes and props. We work with established actors, directors and musicians as well as talented emerging artists from the region.
We present in a formerly vacant 1911 neo-classical bank building at 212 Broadway in the historic downtown. After a community-supported renovation we began operating as an intimate 90-seat theater in 2014 and have produced or presented 15 shows in the theater or environmentally in the community. We also have use of a storefront (The BCT Annex) at 313 Broadway which provides meeting, training, rehearsal and storage space and is the “clubhouse” for our YETI children and youth. Our facilities contribute to the ongoing revitalization of Historic Downtown Hannibal as a place-based cultural destination.
